Connie Kreider:  (Fund Rep)

Friends of the Children-The Power of Mentoring originally had been created to help struggling young readers in the local community to close their reading gap.

Mentoring--a structured and trusting relationship that brings young people together with caring individuals who offer guidance, support, advice, friendship and encouragemnet-- has proved to be a powerful tool for helping young people fulfill their potential.

Since I was unable to continue the program I felt that helping children by providing scholarships would be the best fit for my purpose of helping kids. That is why I decided to help support the C.O.L.L.E.G.E. Fund.

Terry & Karla Rothmann:  (Fund Reps)

Fun and funny, Aaron was an adventurous young man full of life and everything in it.  Though strong-willed, he had a big heart.  In September of 1999, he was involved in an auto accident In Boulder, Colorado, and died.   His parents, along with his siblings Ben, Chris, and Jessica, changed a family fund at the Community Foundation into the Aaron G. Rothmann Memorial Fund.   This tragic event showed the family that they can never take each other for granted, and that they could turn their loss around and help the community that took care of them in their time of need.  Recently parents Terry and Karla Rothmann made the decision to merge Aaron’s fund into the new C.O.L.L.E.G.E. Scholarship Fund to be able to award scholarships to Portage County residents seeking higher education.

Nancy Moore:

After a lifetime as student, then professor, then informal learner, a scholarship fund for worthy local students seems just right.  It’s my investment in the future, locally grown; it’s my tribute to those who have learned and taught here.
